St. Helens Badminton League 2020 Tournament

Hi Everyone, After further discussions today it has also been decided that we are suspending both the senior and junior tournaments.

We are aware that there have already been some entries submitted along with payment. Sathya is going to work through getting refunds out to the people who have already entered.

Entries for both the Junior and Senior tournament are now open and they will be held at Broadway Badminton Centre.


The junior tournament will be held on Sunday 3rd of May 2020 from 10:00-15:00. Entries must be received by Monday 26th April 2020.

The senior tournament will be held on Sunday 26th April from 09:00-17:00. Entries must be received by Sunday 19th April 2020.

The conditions are detailed on the applications form which you can download using the links below. The conditions are going to be strictly adhered to. Any applications received after the closing date will be disregarded and anyone attended on the day who has not applied will not be permitted to play.

The tournament will be running in accordance with the Badminton England Code of Conduct which is available to view here. Anyone breaching this code of conduct will be asked to leave.

Disability CPD Workshop

As part of Badminton England’s investment in to Coaches and supporting their development, we are inviting all members of our Coach Accreditation Scheme to attend this workshop FREE of charge! So why not come along and discover how you can deliver engaging sessions to disabled participants.

This workshop aims to develop Coaches’ knowledge, awareness and confidence to deliver badminton sessions to a range of various impairments disabled participants might have. On this workshop, you will cover the following areas:

  • Understanding movement and hitting for wheelchair badminton
  • Understanding the implications for coaching badminton to disabled participants with standing lower impairments
  • Understanding the implications for coaching badminton to disabled participants with standing upper impairments
  • Understanding the implications for coaching badminton to short stature participants

Foundation Award in Coaching Badminton

Our new Foundation Coach course is the starting point for people who would like to get into coaching badminton and become a coaching assistant. This course will teach you to:

  • Lead fun games, activities, and tournaments
  • Understand the badminton landscape and structure in England
  • Support a ‘coach’ in the delivery of a session through:
    • Delivering appropriate warm ups/ cool downs
    • Appropriately feeding
    • Having a basic knowledge of hitting actions, tactics and the rules of the game
  • Deliver Badminton England programmes such as:
    • No Strings Sessions
    • SmashUp!
    • Racket Pack Lite
  • Understand the badminton landscape
  • Effectively support the development of clubs/ sessions
  • Maximise the participant experience

Developing Tactical Practices for Doubles Workshop

As part of Badminton England’s investment into coaches and supporting their development, we are inviting all members of our Coach Accreditation Scheme to attend this workshop at the heavily subsidised price of just £5*! So why not come along and discover how you can develop tactical practices for your doubles players.

This workshop aims to develop coaches’ knowledge of key tactical themes in doubles and improve their ability to develop effective doubles-based tactical practices.

On this workshop, you will cover the following areas:

  • Identifying general characteristics of effective doubles players.
  • The principles behind developing effective tactical practices for doubles.
  • Developing progressive tactical practices around key tactical themes in modern doubles.
  • Identifying common tactical faults in doubles match play and develop progressive tactical practices to overcome them.
