Bryn and Culcheth A lined up for a re-match of the 2013 final last night. Although your blogger could not be there, the score-sheet shows fortunes ebbing and flowing as each club’s strongest pairs stepped up to do battle.
Before the final round of matches, Bryn led by 37 points. The number 1s saw Tom Lowe & Rob Metcalfe pitched against Adam Davis & Peter Taylor with the latter winning 21-10, 21-15; now Bryn’s lead was cut to 20 points. Matt Seddon & Mark Bradshaw then took on Nigel Berry & Jay Moran winning 21-13, 21-17, a hard-fought match. Finally, the blend of experience [Andy Finch] and youth [Jack Robison] took on Phil Coffey and Glyn Rimmer, really finding form and winning 21-8, 21-6. This gave Bryn an overall points advantage [prior to the handicap] of 60 points, but would it be enough? Up stepped MC for the night, John Harris, who revealed that Culcheth A were to be awarded 45.5 point and, therefore, declared Bryn winners by just 14.5 points.
The line-up for next Thursday’s final has been completed after Culcheth A beat Culcheth B tonight by 59.5 points. Bryn will be looking to exact revenge for their 2013 defeat in the final against Culcheth A and give themselves back-to-back wins.
The final is at Broadway, 8:00 p.m. on 2nd April.
